What is Dolly Parton's Imagination Library?
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is a renowned literacy program that was founded by the legendary Dolly Parton. This initiative is dedicated to fostering a love for reading among children from birth to age five.
The program sends a free, specially selected, age-appropriate book to every enrolled child each month. Available from birth to until their fifth birthday, books include fun ways to engage with children to increase their understanding of reading, broaden their vocabulary, and spend quality time with the adults they love.
Why is this program important?
Did you know that 85% of a child’s brain development happens by age 5? This makes these years an important time to engage young children in learning. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library offers families a fun, free way to engage infants and toddlers in hearing a wide vocabulary of words, engaging with print materials, and instilling an early interest in reading.
Who is eligible?
All children under the age of 5 who live in Northwest Alabama are eligible. The program is completely free to families. Your child can look forward to a new and exciting book in the mail each month until they turn five years old as long as you live within a covered geographic area.
If you live outside of Northwest Alabama, you can visit this website to see if the program is available in your area.
We agree wholeheartedly with Miss Dolly.
