2015 UN1TE to Fight Hunger Campaign Kickoff & Day of Caring

Incredible things happen when a community decides to collectively Be The One! Our 60th Anniversary Kickoff and Day of Caring was a tremendous success thanks to to the generosity of so many people. Nearly 24,000 MEALS were packaged in just shy of 60 minutes! Incredible! As a part of our Day of Caring, the meals were delivered to local food pantries serving many of the 28,700 food insecure individuals in Colbert, Lauderdale and Franklin counties. Part of our mission at United Way is to invest in programs that are creating lasting positive change. Our hope is that we can work collectively with the community to get to the root cause of problems and find solutions to prevent those problems from happening in the first place. For people who have no idea where their next meal is coming from, the last thing they can think about in that moment is the future--they aren't convinced they even have one. United Way of Northwest Alabama partners with service providers to ensure systems remain in place to feed, clothe and house the hungry, needy and homeless. Once individuals and families are free from their crisis situations, they are more likely to redirect their energies to address more long term solutions to help prevent chronic crisis conditions in the future. We would like to thank the following companies for believing in the mission of United Way and for sponsoring our Kickoff event: Navistar Cherokee Al, WZZA Radio, SunTrust, Books-A-Million, Buffalo Rock Company, and the City of Florence. We would also like to thank Publix of Florence Alabama, Panera Bread of Florence Alabama, Jack's Family Restaurant, McDonald's at 1505 Florence Blvd, and McDonald's at 1155 N Wood Ave.' And last but certainly not least, we would like to thank the HUNDREDS of volunteers who made all this happen--both at the Kickoff food packaging event and through various projects all across Northwest Alabama during our Day of Caring. On behalf of our 22 community partners, THANK YOU!! We couldn't do what we do each and every day without you! Here's to a successful 2015-16 campaign and another 60 years of serving Northwest Alabama! ‪#‎LiveUnited‬ ‪#‎BeTheOne‬
